This morning Ovo Energy has announced a new reward scheme for customers, ‘Ovo Interest Reward’.

Thanks for your comment! At Ovo we like to make things simple, so we have just two straightforward tariffs. Our New Energy tariff is fixed for 12 months, offering you protection from future price hikes. We also believe in giving customers what they want:
- UK call centre in the British countryside;
- Clear and easy to understand statements, with electricity and gas on the same statement
- 15% renewable electricity compared to an industry standard of 6.6%
- 3% Ovo interest rewards on any credit balances
- An acre of rainforest protected for each and every customer
With the New Energy tariff you also have the choice of paper or online bills, and payment by Direct Debit. For our prices, the best thing to do is either an online comparison on our website or simply give us a call on 0800 5999 440. Can you tell me please if i get interest on my a/c will i be liable to pay tax on it or not.Will i have to inform the tax man.royston.

Thank you for your question regarding our 3% interest reward scheme. The simple answer is no, you won’t be liable to pay tax on it! How the interest reward scheme works is that you are rewarded for having your account in a positive balance. As this reward amount is deducted from your next bill, then you are not directly earning interest and therefore it is not taxable. The interest will be paid back into your account monthly, and cannot be stored over a long period or withdrawn as real money. On your statement it will show as ‘Ovo interest reward’.

Thank you for your comment! Because Ovo currently has under 250,000 customers we, along with other independent suppliers, are currently exempt from offering social tariffs or the Warm Homes Discount. However, our tariffs are currently among the cheapest in the market and even without the WHD our average tariffs are normally cheaper than a Big Six tariff with the discount included (our average cost is £1,050.00 compared against £1,335.00 with the Big Six.) We absolutely believe that as an energy supplier we have a social responsibility to help seniors or vulnerable families meet their fuel bills and we’re currently lobbying for a review of regulations- but until then like other smaller suppliers we are unfortunately unable to offer a social tariff. Have just received my bill by email today and notice that you say “We wanted to let you know we have made a change to our terms and conditions …..etc..”
I have looked at the Terms and Conditions on the website but cannot tell what the changes are. Could you please let me know what Nos. you are referring to. Hopefully there is nothing too drastic! Would just like to say that I have been with OVO for 3 years now and have nothing but praise for the way the company is run. All bills very clear and can always speak to an advisor if needed. Even more helpful is your call centres are in the UK and can always understand the helpful person at the end of the line. Thank you.
as someone who is looking to change their current energy supplier, i find these comments very useful when making a decision, its not always about cost, sometimes customer satisfsaction can be the deciding factor when changing. I have read all the q&a’s and was pleased to see all had a response until i reached your question, no response to a question which a lot of people would no doubt want an answer for regarding T&C’s.

Very pleased with the service and attitude of OVO Energy. Just wanted to know if there was any future plans for an OVO Energy app to monitor our energy use, input meter readings and compare usage with similar households in surround areas etc.

is this 3% of the credit balance each month? or is it a compounded APR of 3% of the credit balance, thus meaning the amount earned each month is not 3% of the previous months credit balance but in actual fact a payment of 0.25% of the previous months credit balance?
Can you please clarify what it is.

Hello Michael – Thank you for your comment. The current annual rate of reward is three per cent. When a statement is generated, you will be credited for the corresponding period of time. This proportion is worked out by counting the days between consecutive statements. Divide the number of days between statements by 365, then multiply that by three to see what percentage you will get each time. Hopefully this helps.
