Green zone

Everyone’s heard of CO2, the greenhouse effect and climate change. It seems like they’re never out of the media and it’s often hard to work out the difference between fact and fiction.

It’s good to review the facts (and these really are facts!) from time-to-time in order to remind ourselves that these are REAL problems that are happening NOW.

The Facts

Whilst the greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon, the increase in CO2 (and other greenhouse gases) in our atmosphere have meant that the greenhouse effect is intensifying and we are starting to see real changes in climates throughout the World:

  • Since 1997 we have experienced 10 of the warmest years on record
  • During the last 100 years the Earth has warmed by roughly 0.75°C
  • Spring now arrives in the UK around 10 days earlier than it did in the 1970s
  • The last three years have had the lowest amount of Arctic summer sea ice on record
  • CO2 levels in the atmosphere have risen by 38% since 1750, the year the industrial revolution began

The solution

We believe that the time to act is now and as an Energy Provider we want to be a part of the solution. Cutting emissions is the key. This can be achieved by reducing the amount of energy we all use and sourcing more energy from renewable and low-carbon sources.

We think that it’s more important to encourage many to do a little, rather than rely on a few to do a lot. That’s why we encourage more people to use renewable energy and help them understand how it benefits the whole planet and everyone on it.
