New Hires for Independent Supplier OVO Energy

Following the appointment of Jessica Lennard earlier this month as Head of Corporate Affairs, OVO Energy continues to ramp up its external relations capability by recruiting three leading industry experts.

Policy Exchange’s Head of Energy and Environment, Guy Newey; IPPR’s Senior Energy Research Fellow, Reg Platt; and Edelman’s Rob Jeffery will all join the growing OVO team over the coming months.

The string of new hires is part of a wider recruitment exercise for the independent energy supplier, which has more than doubled in size in the past year and is currently recruiting for 100 positions including media and corporate communications.

Jessica Lennard commented: “We are delighted to welcome three such impressive new team members. Their skills and values are a great fit for OVO and their contribution will be critical to shaping our public engagement strategy going forward.”

About OVO’s new hires:

Guy, who joins Ovo as Head of Policy, currently heads up the energy and environment practice of prominent centre-right think tank, Policy Exchange. Before joining Policy Exchange, he worked as a journalist, including three years as a foreign correspondent in Hong Kong. Guy has an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College, London.

“The energy sector has to regain the public's trust. OVO is disrupting the retail market and proving competition can help make life a little bit easier for people struggling with their bills. I am delighted to be joining that effort.”

Reg joins as Partnerships Manager for Community Energy, with responsibility for developing OVO Communities, the company’s pioneering out-of-the-box community energy initiative. Reg currently leads on energy and climate change policy at IPPR, a leading centre-left think tank and holds an MSc in environment, science and society from University College London.

"OVO Communities is the most exciting innovation going in the UK's energy sector. Through collaborations with partners we can take on the status quo, bring the decentralised energy vision to life and make this sector work better for communities across the country. I can't wait to get started."

Following in Lennard’s footsteps, Rob joins from Edelman where he helped build the award winning Energy Public Affairs practice. Rob joined Edelman two years ago working specifically for clients in the energy and sustainability sector, prior to which he worked in the public affairs team at RenewableUK.

"OVO's trailblazing rise to prominence over the past year has thrown them into the public spotlight. Communicating with politicians will become even more important as the business continues to grow, particularly given where we are in the electoral cycle."
