OVO Energy voted number one for customer service

New Money Saving Expert poll sees OVO receive the most votes for great customer service out of all 27 energy suppliers

 

15 SEPTEMBER 2014: OVO Energy has been independently ranked as the energy company with the highest approval rating among its customers, following a new poll conducted by MoneySavingExpert.com

The independent energy supplier lead their larger competitors by a significant margin, attracting the most responses with 905 votes out of the 6,837, as the consumer website sought to establish how customers view their energy company’s service. Customers were invited to rate their suppliers’ service over the past six months as Great, Ok or Poor. 82 per cent of customers said they were more than satisfied with the service OVO Energy provided, ranking them as ‘great’.

Customers of the Big Six energy firms ranked them significantly lower, with EDF receiving the highest Big Six score (48 percent “great”) and npower the lowest (71 percent Poor rating).

Jason Sharpe, Managing Director, OVO Energy, said: “We don’t think like a traditional energy company - our business has been built around what is best for customers. It’s no accident that our management team mostly come from great retail brands outside the energy sector with excellent track records in customer experience.

“We are absolutely delighted that our customers feel we’ve earned these scores. We’re determined that our commitment to the best possible customer service only gets stronger as we continue to grow.”

The latest DECC figures show 33% of domestic electricity customers have never switched from their incumbent supplier - 25 years after the start of privatisation. Energy regulator Ofgem estimates that these customers (9.2 million of them) could save up to £250 by shopping around. This equates to around £2.3bn of savings that UK energy customers could be missing out on.

Sharpe continued; “These stats are worryingly high, switching rates are declining and trust in the industry is falling . I urge consumers to shop around – there are companies out there that offer better prices and service. It’s not a case of ‘better the devil you know’ anymore.”

Jason Sharpe was appointed the new Managing Director of OVO Energy in July, with a view to bring the expertise he gained from remodelling businesses such as Vodafone, first direct and ASDA to be more customer-focused.
