OVO Volunteers Coach Code-Curious Local Kids
- OVO Energy’s CoderDojo events soar with success
- Free opportunity for local next-gen kids to learn coding skills
- The first regular CoderDojo in Bristol is looking for local volunteers to help spark bright young minds
A recent workshop held at OVO Energy’s headquarters in Temple Quay, Bristol, saw volunteers from OVO’s 100 strong tech team help 50 local children learn the latest codes to hit the keyboards. Looking to welcome even more youngsters to the next event, OVO is calling on local tech savvy gurus to volunteer their skills to supercharge the next coding sessions.
Coding is an incredibly important skill, opening the door for next-gen whizz kids to endless career opportunities; it's even earned a slot on the national curriculum. As a company with technology at its heart, OVO teamed up with CoderDojo to spark imaginations of youngsters and boost their skills to enable them to build apps, innovative games and even create new emoticons.
CoderDojo is a global network of computer programming clubs for young people and OVO will be hosting quarterly events at its premises for children aged 7 to 17 years to learn the language of code.
Mariano Albera, Chief Technology Officer of OVO Energy commented:
“Coding is a skill that is increasingly shaping our world, and here at OVO we recognise that tech savvy talent is invaluable. For this reason we want to ensure that as many children as possible are being given the opportunity to learn and develop.”
The next CoderDojo is scheduled for 16th April. Want to get involved and share your coding know how? If so, OVO would welcome any techies here in the South West to get in touch to sign up to become a volunteer.
Not sure your skills are up to scratch? That's ok too. It is a fun opportunity to help brush up on your skills, as well as a rewarding experience helping spark bright young minds.
To sign up, email either firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com depending on your location.
