World’s best in cycling take on most thrilling UK route yet at the 2017 OVO Energy Tour of Britain

OVO Energy, the UK’s leading independent energy supplier, sponsors the UK's biggest professional cycle race for the first time ever 

London, Wednesday 30 August 2017 - Building on its successful sponsorship of the 2017 Women’s Tour in June, OVO Energy turns its attention to the UK’s most prestigious professional cycle race the 2017 OVO Energy Tour of Britain, featuring the world’s best male cyclists and teams. 

For the first time, all three capitals of Great Britain will have been visited by the best in cycling, with the OVO Energy Tour of Britain scheduled to ride through Edinburgh and Cardiff, following on from the thrilling finale of the Women’s Tour in London earlier this year. 

As the popularity of cycling in the UK continues to grow, the Tour of Britain gives British cycling fans unparalleled access to watch the world's best teams and riders competing on their doorsteps, with Team Sky’s Geraint Thomas and Team Dimension Data’s Mark Cavendish confirmed to ride.

OVO Energy’s sponsorship of the Tour of Britain signals its continued commitment to championing sustainability through smart technology. OVO recently launched EV Everywhere, a new and reliable energy bundle to charge electric vehicles nationwide with 100 percent renewable energy. As part of the Tour, for the first time, electric motorcycles will be used by race officials to power the lead bike during the time trial. 

During OVO Energy’s recent electric vehicle launch, a commissioned survey found that sixty-three per cent of UK population are concerned about their impact on the environment, opting for more sustainable ways to travel, with more than a third of Brits already taking part in cycling activities. 

OVO Energy will be giving people the opportunity to take part in a Virtual Reality cycling experience, putting fans competitors’ pedals. Spectators will be invited to tackle the arduous Brill Hill, King of the Mountains climb through the virtual reality experience.
