OVO Energy wins Young Business of the Year award

08 October 2010 | Ovo Energy

OVO Energy, the UK’s newest gas and electricity supplier, received the 2010 Young Business of the Year award last night – 7 October – at the Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo Business Awards ceremony.

Based in Cirencester, OVO Energy was recognised for its entrepreneurial approach and creative business idea. Started by customers who were fed up with complicated bills, poor customer service and confusing tariffs, OVO started with a simple idea – there must be a better way.

Stephen Fitzpatrick, OVO’s managing director and founder said: “It’s fantastic to win the Young Business of the Year award. We’re a young, energetic company set on challenging the status quo.”

Since its launch in September 2009, OVO has grown from five to 50 employees and is currently supplying gas and electricity to more than 30,000 homes across the UK.

Fitzpatrick continues: “For us, the Gloucestershire countryside has been a source for highly ambitious and forward-thinking young people. Investing in fresh minds that have no preconceptions of the way things are usually done has its advantages. We find it’s often our interns who come up with the answer to a question we’ve been puzzling over, or figure out a way make things simpler for our customers. We’re very proud of our employees, so I want to thank the entire team for their commitment and hard work. ”

The award follows OVO Energy’s earlier success this year in winning the Barclays ‘Take one small step’ award for the South West region.
