OVO Vehicle-to-Grid Trial: what’s next
Our trial is slowly coming to end, on a very high note. You’ve helped us see the potential electric vehicles have in building a better grid for everyone – and shaping the UK’s low carbon future. That calls for a big shout-out to every single one of our participants!
Many of our members are now moving to the end of their 2-year trial period. If you're one of them, here's what to expect.
Your V2G export credits will stay the same until at least January 2023
During this time, your app will continue to control your Charger, as usual.
Plus, your export rates will stay the same after your trial ends. That’s 26p/kWh if you have a solar PV system, and 30p/kWh if you don’t. You’ll enjoy these rates as long as you keep using your Charger.
If your energy plan is ending, you can keep your V2G export credits by picking one of our single-rate plans, or our variable plan (called Simpler Energy). V2G credits are not available on a multi-rate plan (like Economic 7).
By continuing to receive the V2G export credits after your trial, you agree to our V2G post-trial terms and conditions.

You can keep your charger, for free
The moment your trial ends, the charger is all yours. You don’t have to make any new payments for it.
If you don’t want your charger any more, just email us at [email protected] We'll remove it for free if you request this within 2 months from the date your trial end (we’ll drop you an email before that date).
If you are still within your trial period, the V2G Trial terms and conditions still apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
You’ll automatically receive them after your 2-year trial ends if:
- You chose to share with us half-hourly meter readings
- You’re on a single-rate fixed or variable plan
The V2G export credits aren’t available with OVO Drive Anytime, a dual-rate or multi-rate energy plan.
By continuing to receive V2G export credits, you agree to the V2G post-trial terms and conditions.
We’d be sad to see you go, but if you decide to leave, please email us at [email protected] one month before you switch.
If you switch before your trial’s up, we’ll remove the charger and you could be charged £300. The trial started the day your V2G charger was installed.
No. Once you reach the end of the 2-year period, the charger is all yours, unless you want us to remove it. If you do, just email us at [email protected] within 2 months after your trial ends and we’ll remove it for free.
You can always contact Indra, our EV charging partner, at support@indra.co.uk. You’ll be in safe hands: they’ll first try and solve your issue remotely, if possible. If your charger needs fixing, you’ll need to pay for these costs yourself.
No problem, just email us at [email protected] We'll remove it for free if you request this within 2 months from the date your trial end (we’ll drop you an email before that date).
If you decide to do this after these 2 months, you’ll need to pay and sort out the removal by contacting a service provider. We recommend going with our EV charging partner, ChargedEV, as their team has experience with chargers like yours.
Unfortunately, we’re not able to do that. When we remove the V2G charger, we’ll make sure your old one can be reinstalled easily by an expert.
We know many of our members are keen for their charger to work as a V2H. Right now, we’re not developing a V2H proposition – we’ll let you know if we have more news on this.
If you want to leave the trial and still receive credits for your solar exports, sign up to OVO’s Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) plan by filling out this form. Or, you can also switch to another SEG licensee supplier.
It’s not possible to receive both SEG and V2G export credits. If you would like to leave the trial or you are outside of the trial period and would like to stop receiving exports please contact the team at [email protected] to let them know.
If you decide to switch away, once you’ve moved to your new supplier, you won’t be able to log into the V2G web app, earn our V2G export credits, or get troubleshooting support from us.
\ We’ll also need to delete your charging data from the app once you’ve left, in line with our privacy policy. We recommend downloading your data from the app or taking a screenshot of anything you’d like to keep as soon as possible.
We know many members are expecting the export rate of their V2G to increase to 6kW, but unfortunately, the complexity of the G99 application process with local grid operators was greater than we anticipated at the start of the trial.
As a result, the export rate will be limited to 3.68kW for now. Powerful exports are important to the future of V2G technology and we’re working towards making that happen. Watch this space.
Of course. Just let us know at [email protected] before you do because this could change the export credits you get.
If you want to continue receiving the V2G export credits, remember that the peak power of the panels must not go beyond 4kW.
You should contact your Distribution Network Operator to check if the additional panels meet DNO export guidelines.
Sure you can. But on a multi-rate plan you won’t receive the V2G export credits any more.
You’ll continue to get these only if you choose a single-rate fixed plan, or move to Simpler Energy, our variable plan.
No, it won’t! As long as you meet the eligibility criteria of the V2G export credits, you can keep using the V2G charger without losing your Nissan warranty.
