OVO appoints Number 10 energy advisor as chief of staff to CEO

London, 22 August 2017 - OVO Group, the parent company of leading independent energy supplier OVO Energy, today announced that it has appointed Georgia Berry to the newly created role of chief of staff to CEO and founder, Stephen Fitzpatrick.

Berry joins from 10 Downing Street, where she was Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, overseeing the development of government policy across all aspects of energy including generation mix and technologies, the UK energy network, and reforms to the retail market.

Prior to her time at Number 10, Berry was Head of Corporate Responsibility at Centrica where she shaped strategies focused on sustainable growth and led liaison with policy makers and civil society on sustainability issues. Previous roles saw her work for charities and NGOs focused on conservation, clean technology and sustainable energy.

Berry’s appointment comes at a crucial point for OVO as it accelerates its evolution from a top-rated, pure play energy retailer into a multiservice energy technology company. Following a succession of acquisitions, including grid services company VCharge, insurance and home services provider CORGI HomePlan, electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer ChargedEV and EV components supplier, Indra, and the launch of a major EV partnership with Chargemaster; OVO is fast transitioning to position itself at the vanguard of companies developing future-facing smart energy services and systems.

Commenting on the appointment Stephen Fitzpatrick said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Georgia to OVO. She will play a vital role in helping to shape our strategy as we accelerate our efforts towards helping create a democratised and decarbonised future energy system. Her deep understanding of the impact digitisation is having on our industry, coupled with her passion for sustainability issues, will prove invaluable as we seek to harness the disruptive power of technology to make energy better for everyone.”

Georgia Berry commented: “OVO has built a strong reputation as an innovative company that prioritises the interests of its customers, but that is just the start. I’m excited about working with Stephen to develop growth strategies for the wider business that will harness the opportunities presented by emerging technologies. Future changes, including the development of in-home battery storage, electric vehicles and smart controls, present the opportunity to provide everybody with abundant, clean and fairly-priced energy.”

Berry takes up her role on Monday 4th September.
