OVO’s CEO and Founder Stephen Fitzpatrick named Entrepreneur of the Year
London, 29 June 2018 - Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO and Founder of OVO, was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards held at The Brewery, London.
The BusinessGreen Leaders Awards recognises excellence across projects, individuals and teams from leading UK green businesses. The Entrepreneur of the Year Award rewards an enterprising individual who has achieved high growth and strong financial performance for an innovative green business.
Stephen established OVO in 2009 to make energy greener, cheaper and simpler for customers. Now, nearly ten years on, OVO serves more than 1 million customers with intelligent energy services and other home services.
Earlier this year Stephen unveiled the world’s first domestic vehicle-to-grid charger which together with its intelligent platform VCharge will make up the distributed, domestic energy system of the future. Judges were impressed by Stephen’s enthusiasm for developing the technology that will accelerate the mass uptake of electric vehicles and solve the challenge of how to bring more renewable energy onto the grid.
Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO and Founder, OVO said: “Winning this award is a great honour, but the huge advances we’ve made this year wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of all the team at OVO.
New technologies are completely transforming the world of energy and disrupting business models. Energy companies like OVO need to invest urgently in the innovation required to compete in this new world and to meet their customer needs.
Companies can’t be afraid to cannibalise their own business in order to deliver long-term, lifetime value to their customers and the planet. Of the many things I learned setting up OVO, this is the most important.”
