OVO comment's on Scottish Government's Heat in Buildings Strategy

The Scottish Government has published its draft Heat in Buildings Strategy, which sets out draft proposals for ensuring all homes in Scotland reach net zero emissions by 2045 and commits the Scottish Government to deploying renewable heating systems in at least 64,000 homes per year by 2025, decarbonising a total of 1m homes by 2030 and agreeing Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies for all local authority areas in Scotland by the end of 2023. Adrian Letts, CEO of OVO Retail commented: “OVO welcomes the Scottish Government’s Heat in Buildings Strategy and new five year £1.6bn investment in decarbonising one million homes by 2030. “Achieving cost parity between fossil fuel and low carbon heating systems and matching local communities with their most suitable, affordable technology options will be absolutely critical to achieving a just transition that keeps the cost of greener heat down for vulnerable consumers. “What we need now is a clear date from which gas boilers will no longer be installed in people’s homes. We are confident that we have the technology available to electrify heat nationwide and we have the people ready to retrain to install those systems, drawing on our network of CORGI engineers.”
