OVO Energy signs major Power Purchase Agreement with Eneco
OVO Energy has signed its second major Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of 2021 with Eneco, to buy 100% of the green power from Crystal Rig Wind Farm, operated by Fred. Olsen Renewables in East Scotland
The first was signed in February of this year with Ørsted to buy 100% of the green power from the offshore Barrow Wind Farm.
London, Tuesday 29th June 2021 - OVO Energy, the UK’s largest independent energy supplier, today announces it has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Eneco to buy 100% of the power volume forecast to be produced from the 62.5MW capacity Crystal Rig Wind Farm, operated by Fred. Olsen Renewables in East Scotland.
This agreement marks the second major PPA so far this year for OVO Energy. Earlier this year, OVO Energy announced an agreement with Ørsted to purchase 100% of the power from its 90MW capacity Barrow Offshore Wind Farm.

Ben Blake, GM and Chief Commercial Officer, OVO said: “We’re delighted to be working with Eneco on a major power purchase agreement. Continuing to support renewable generation in the UK makes green energy accessible for our members, lowering the footprint of our zero-carbon community and taking giant leaps towards our 2030 net-zero goal.
“We will continue to invest in renewable energy generation across the UK, striving to make green energy an industry wide standard.”
Kees-Jan Rameau, Eneco Chief Strategic Growth Officer said: ”Eneco is very pleased to be able to deliver the 100% renewable power from the Crystal Rig wind farm to OVO Energy members. Enabling the energy flows between assets and customers is at the heart of the Eneco strategy as well as increasing our renewable asset base and reducing the carbon footprint of our customers and partners”.
In addition to this deal with OVO in the domestic market, Eneco supplies many large industrial and commercial businesses in the UK with dedicated 100% renewable energy from its own onshore wind and solar portfolio, and third party PPAs.
PPAs and REGOs both have a place in the energy system as mechanisms for driving the growth of renewable energy in the UK and ensuring consumers can match the electricity that they use with UK renewable generation. It is for this reason that OVO uses both PPAs and REGOs. OVO chooses to support renewable electricity generation in the UK and does not purchase cheaper alternative green energy certificates from Europe.
