T&Cs for Power Move Plus.
These terms and conditions (Terms) apply to our ‘Power Move Plus’ promotion (Power Move Plus). Please read these Terms carefully.
These Terms are in addition to, and do not replace, our Core Energy Supply Terms and Conditions (Core Terms) or any other terms which may apply to your OVO plan.
All defined terms in the Core Terms will have the same meaning when used in these Terms unless otherwise stated.
1.1 This winter, we're rewarding our customers for making positive steps towards reducing our collective carbon footprint.
When you sign up to Power Move Plus, you’ll receive email notifications letting you know when the UK’s grid has the highest demand for electricity over a specific time period.
You’ll then need to shift your non-essential electricity use outside of these hours, when the grid has less demand.
You’ll receive a personal target with every Power Move Plus event – all you have to do is reduce your non-essential electricity use to below this target in order to get a reward (paid as energy credit to your bill – see section 4 for more details).
The Electricity Systems Operation (ESO) is currently running the Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) in collaboration with energy suppliers to help customers reduce their bills this winter, and reduce demand on the grid at peak times.
By signing up to Power Move Plus, you’re also registering to be part of the ESO Demand Flexibility Service with OVO, and you’ll be automatically opted in to the DFS and receive DFS notifications.
How can I get Power Move Plus?
1.2 You can join a Power Move Plus if you’re an OVO pay monthly and on demand customer with a smart meter that’s sending half-hourly readings. We’ll be inviting eligible customers to sign up to Power Move Plus from October 2023. Please note that participation will be on a first come first served basis as numbers are limited.
How does Power Move Plus work with Power Move?
1.3 Power Move Plus is an additional benefit of Power Move, allowing you to unlock more savings off your energy bill by shifting your electricity use to greener times.
1.4 You are able to sign up to Power Move Plus alongside Power Move, either participating in both schemes or only in one. Any credit earned from Power Move Plus will be in addition to the monthly credit earned by meeting the Monthly Target for a specific Power Move challenge.
2.1 In order to be eligible for Power Move Plus you must meet the following criteria:
- have a communicating electricity smart meter that is a credit meter
- have a smart meter that is single rate (meaning you only pay a single, flat rate for your electricity) or economy-7
- opt in to half-hourly meter readings (you can opt in to half-hourly readings via your online account)
- have an active email address
- have OVO as your energy provider
- follow with these Terms and the Core Terms
(the Eligibility Criteria)
2.2 Unfortunately there may be some types of credit and single rate smart meters that won’t work with Power Move Plus. If you have an ineligible meter you won’t be able to join.
2.3 If at any time you fail to meet the Eligibility Criteria, including no longer opting in to receive emails about Power Move Plus email marketing consent or half-hourly meter readings, then we reserve the right to end your participation in Power Move Plus and you won’t receive any further Power Move Plus energy credit.
We’ll email you a notification to tell you when the grid is going to be in high demand
3.1 We will send you an email notification to let you know a time period during a specific day (e.g. between 4pm and 5pm) when the ESO thinks the grid is likely to see the highest demand.
Opting in
3.2 You’ll have to opt in to each individual event to take part in it. If you don’t opt-in you won’t receive a reward for that event even if you hit your personal target so keep checking your inbox for those notifications!
You'll get a personal target telling you how much you’ll need to reduce your electricity use by
3.3 As part of each Power Move Plus event, we’ll give you a personal target. You’ll need to reduce the amount of non-essential electricity you use to below this target by shifting it to another time, when the grid is greener. If you do this you’ll get a reward for that event.
How we calculate your personal target
3.4 We calculate your personal target using ESO’s methodology. For more information see DFS Participation Guidance Document.
For working days – your personal target is calculated using the half hourly electricity usage data taken from your smart meter over the last 10 working days (Mon - Fri excluding bank holidays) before an event. Days where there has been a Power Move Plus event will not count towards the target. You must have at least 5 working days worth of data for a target to be calculated.
For non-working days (Saturday, Sunday & bank holidays) – your personal target is calculated using the half hourly electricity usage data taken from your smart meter over the last 4 non-working days. Days where there has been a Power Move Plus event will not count towards the target. You must have at least 4 non-working days worth of data for a target to be calculated.
This means, as your usage changes over the course of winter, so does your personal target.
You'll get a reward if you reduce your peak electricity use to below your personal target
3.5 If you're able to reduce your electricity usage to below your personal target for each event, we’ll reward you with energy credit for every kWh of electricity usage you shift below your target. This price will vary per event and you will be told what the value is on your email before you opt in. This will be paid to you in the form of a credit to your bill.
3.6 The amount of the reward you will receive will depend on the level of demand on the grid and how much non-essential electricity you can shift. You can opt in to as many events as you want to.
3.7 If you don’t reduce your electricity use below your target then you won’t receive a reward for that event, even if you’ve opted in to it.
3.8 Each month the bill credit you receive through these rewards will vary depending on:
- The number of Power Move Plus events you’ve opted in to
- The reward value of the events you’ve opted in to
- If you’ve reduced your electricity usage below your target
3.9 If your smart meter stops communicating you should let us know as soon as possible. If your smart meter isn’t communicating you won’t be able to receive a reward as we won’t have the data we require to correctly calculate your energy usage.
How much will I receive as a reward?
4.1 We all use different amounts of electricity within our homes so it’s difficult to know exactly how much you’ll earn as a reward. Your reward is directly linked to how much non-essential electricity you shift out of the time period, compared to your personal target.
How your reward is paid
4.2 The reward is applied as credit directly to your bill. You’ll be credited each month with the sum of all rewards earned in the previous month (for all months of Power Move Plus except October). For example, for any rewards earned in November, you will receive energy credit in December.
4.3 Any reward earned in October will be credited in December with any credit earned in November.
4.4 If you pay by Direct Debit, the Direct Debit amount you pay per month will not change, the energy credit will show as a separate line item on your bill.
4.5 If your account has a negative balance, any reward paid will be used to pay off what’s owed.
4.6 There is no cash alternative to the reward and you won’t be able to withdraw the credit from your energy account to your bank account.
What happens if I don’t reduce my electricity use below the target?
4.7 You won’t be eligible to receive any reward for an event if you don’t reduce your electricity use to below your personal target
If you want to leave Power Move Plus
5.1 You can opt out of Power Move Plus at any time by pressing the opt out button on any Power Move Plus email you’ve received.
If you switch away
5.2 You’re free to switch away at any time (unless you owe us money, in which case we may stop your switch until the money is paid). If you switch away at any point during Power Move Plus, you’ll be rewarded for any events up until the point of switching. You’ll find further information about switching away from OVO in our Core Terms.
If you move home
5.3 As long as you stay with OVO, you’ll be able to opt in again to Power Move Plus with your new account details. You’ll need to let us know your new account details by contacting us directly.
When we can terminate your participation in Power Move Plus
5.4 If you don’t comply with these Terms or our Core Terms, including where you don’t pay your bills or if you no longer meet any of our Eligibility Criteria, we reserve the right to end your participation in Power Move Plus. This would happen with immediate effect and you’ll no longer be eligible to receive the energy credit for any Power Move Plus events you opted into.
We can make changes to these Terms and Power Move Plus at any time. These changes may include, but are not limited to, changing the amount of energy credit payable, amending or withdrawing Power Move Plus, or reducing the time the Power Move Plus is available for. Where we make any changes that are to your detriment, we’ll give you reasonable notice. We reserve the right to refuse access to Power Move Plus at our sole discretion, even where you meet the Eligibility Criteria.

8.1 By signing up to Power Move Plus you’re agreeing to receive communications in relation to Power Move Plus for the entirety of the time you’re opted in (unless you later choose to opt out of Power Move Plus). It’s your responsibility to make sure your email address is kept up to date in order to receive our emails. If you need to change your email address, you can do this in your online account.
8.2 We may share your contact details (name and email address) with our trusted third-party research agency partners, as mentioned in our Privacy Policy. This is so they can contact you for feedback on your experience of Power Move Plus. Your data won’t be used for marketing purposes unless you’ve opted in to receive marketing from us.
9.1 We won’t be liable for any loss or damage you may suffer as a result of your participation in Power Move Plus where such loss or damage cannot be excluded by law.
9.2 These Terms are governed by English Law and any dispute arising in relation to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
