Green up the grid with home energy storage
Our revolutionary home battery trial
Find out more about the revolutionary home battery trial we’re carrying out.
We’re bringing the #FutureOfEnergy to the here and now. That’s why we’ve partnered with Sonnen, to unlock the amazing potential of home batteries for solar energy storage.
What our battery storage trial involves?
We believe energy and tech are the best tools for tackling the climate crisis. Which is why we’re running this home energy storage trial.
We want to prove that home battery storage can help build a greener grid. So we’re installing sonnenBatteries in homes. The aim? To test how well they support the local grid at peak times – with energy from solar panels!
People taking part will get a brand new sonnenBatterie to help power their home. Which will really help green up the grid. Here’s how the trial works throughout the year...
Making green energy for local neighbourhoods
In the colder months, when energy is most needed, we’ll send the extra energy stored in batteries back to the local grid.
During this time, we might sometimes top up the solar energy stored in the batteries, with energy from the national grid. Just to make sure there’s enough to support the local network.

Battery storage to power homes
During summertime, the batteries will mainly just be powering homes: storing energy from solar panels to be used when the sun’s not shining. There might be times when we’re testing other ways it can help support the wider grid, but this won’t affect energy use day to day. It’s all part of creating a greener, smarter energy system of the future – a win for us all!

Why we’re trialling home energy storage…
Green up the grid
Batteries can store renewable energy to be used later by homes – or the local grid – when it’s needed most.
They shrink energy bills
With a home battery, people could save up to £100 a year* because you’ll be using more of your own energy.
Make home energy storage mainstream
As one of the first to use this planet-loving technology, the trial will help shape the future of home batteries.
