The switching process

It takes around four weeks from when you switch until we start supplying your energy. Your contract summary shows your supply start date.

1. Your cooling-off period: 14 days when you can change your mind and cancel.
2. We get started: We contact your current energy supplier to take over your supply.
3. You give your opening meter readings in My OVO: We’ll email you when it’s time.
4. We send your first statement: You’ll get this 4-6 weeks after we start supplying you.

Paying by Direct Debit

Most people use more gas and electricity in the winter than in the summer, so we set your Direct Debit at a level that will cover your average energy over 12 months. During the year, your account may sometimes be in credit, because you’ve paid for more energy than you’ve used. Or in debit, when you use more energy than you’ve paid for.


Managing your account in My OVO

If you’ve chosen to benefit from our online management discount, you must use My OVO to manage your account. It only takes a minute to set up your My OVO account, and then you can use it to give us your readings, check statements, and much more.

Why regular meter readings are important

It’s best to send us your meter readings once a month, just before your statement’s due – because the more up to date we are, the more accurate your statements will be. It’s easy in My OVO or through our OVO Energy app. 

Our OVO Interest Reward

As you pay for your energy in advance by Direct Debit, your account will sometimes be in credit. When that happens, we’ll give you our 3% OVO Interest Reward on any money left in your OVO account after you’ve paid your bill. 

Keeping an eye on your Direct Debit

We’ll check your Direct Debit regularly. If it doesn’t seem to match the amount of energy you’re using, we’ll let you know we need to increase or reduce your monthly payment.
