EV home charging is as simple as setting your ‘ready by’ time. You can get home, plug in and know your car will be ready when you need it.
With EV rates like Charge Anytime, you could smart charge for under 2p a mile.
To install an EV charger, you need to:
Own the property
Have your own off-street parking
Have a WiFi connection at home or good local 4G signal
To find out if your home is suitable for an EV charger, first choose your preferred charger and complete our installation survey.
EV home chargers can come with two kinds of cable, tethered (attached to the charger) or untethered (plugs into the charger).
Tethered chargers
Tethered chargers are more expensive but come with the cable included. It’s also easy to get home and plug in.
The tethered chargers we currently offer come with cables that range from 4.5m to 10m depending on the model.
Untethered chargers
Some drivers prefer an untethered charger because it looks smaller and neater on the wall of their home, or they already have a charging cable. When you want to charge your EV you’ll need to get your charging cable from your boot or where you store it.
Our standard charger installations take around 3 hours to complete and include:
An expert engineer fitting the EV charger to a brick/rendered wall.
Up to 10 metres of 6mm power and data cable – this is neatly clipped to the wall between the electricity supply meter and the charger.
Setting up the charger and pairing with your smartphone via WiFi or 4G – with full support from our engineer.
A full demonstration of how your new charger works.
If you’re an OVO customer and eligible, our engineers will help you set up Charge Anytime and demonstrate how it works.
For a standard installation to go ahead:
Your meter needs to be outside.
The existing electrical connections and protections within your home must be in good condition.
All required main protective bonding at the property must be installed and adequately sized before the installation of the charge point.
No groundworks/civil works, electrical remedial works or any other trades should be required.
If any of these requirements aren’t met, our surveyors will let you know. Our engineers can carry out Earth bonding upgrades for an additional cost. Main isolation switches can also be fitted for OVO customers on the day of install for an additional cost.
Note that any groundworks that needs to be done would need to be arranged by the customer.
