Hello, we're OVO
We’re an energy supplier on a journey to zero carbon with our members
We launched in 2009 to make energy cheaper, greener and simpler. Since then we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted over a million trees and set our sights on helping save the planet. That’s why we offer 100% renewable electricity1 if you have a smart meter – and plant 1 million trees every year, right here in the UK.2. We believe in great service that's friendly and reliable. That's why we have over 30,000 5* reviews on Trustpilot.
Home energy is an amazing tool to fight the climate crisis with. On average it makes up 26% of your carbon footprint3. So if we all cut this to zero, we could create huge positive change, together.
We’re building a supportive zero carbon community – and bringing everyone the green energy, technology and guidance they need to make change happen. And, to lead by example, we’re committed to becoming a net zero carbon business by 2035.

Change takes all of us. So we’ve committed to being a net zero carbon business by 2035, while helping members like you halve your carbon footprint at the same time. We’ll get this done by managing our emissions as an organisation, and helping you to do the same.
We call it Plan Zero, and we’re not doing it alone. All the companies in the OVO family are working towards the same goals.

Carbon-cutting energy is just the beginning
The journey to zero carbon is about more than just renewable energy. It’s about changing the way we use energy in our homes and beyond them. And new technologies will help us.
That’s why we’re crunching smart meter data into easy, personalised actions, turning electric vehicles into power stations with clever chargers, keeping you cosy with energy-efficient heaters– and developing lots of new tech for the future.
When you join OVO, you join a team of us making small changes to our energy use to help build a sustainable energy system of the future.

Creating a greener, brighter future for the next generation
We believe every child and young person should have access to nature - and be able to learn about protecting the planet they love. That’s why we launched OVO Foundation in 2014, OVO’s climate-focused charity. We’re supporting climate action and education projects for kids across the UK, giving them the tools they need to become the green guardians of tomorrow.
Everything we do at the OVO Foundation is funded by generous donations from our customers. 100% of that money goes directly to our projects, and we match every penny donated. So together, we can do double the good!
We’ve also planted over a million carbon-fighting trees in towns and cities across the UK through our I Dig Trees programme. And this number keeps on growing!

Terms and conditions
1 From 1 October 2022, 100% renewable electricity is only available to customers who currently have an electricity smart meter or who have a smart meter installed. To book a smart meter installation or for more information, head here. Not all customers may be able to have a smart meter installed. Terms and eligibility criteria apply, please see here for details. If you are on a fixed contract you will still receive 100% renewable energy until the end of your contract. The renewable electricity we sell is backed by renewable certificates (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates, also known as REGOs). Get more details on REGOs and how these work here. A proportion of the electricity we sell is also purchased directly from renewable power generators in the UK.
2 OVO Energy plants 1 million trees across the UK each year with its tree planting partners, The Conservation Volunteers and the Woodland Trust. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so planting trees helps to slow down climate change.
3 This is an average amount and excludes emissions from things that you cannot directly control such as supporting the NHS, defence, government bodies, etc.
4 We plant 5 trees for every OVO Beyond Member through our award-winning I Dig Trees programme with The Conservation Volunteers. Tree planting can help to reduce carbon emissions by absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Between April 2018 to March 2019 we planted at least 156,000 trees, bringing the total number to over 1,000,000 trees planted since 2015.
