Common questions

If you’re switching to OVO Energy and would like to add Charge Anytime to your plan, you’ll need to wait until your energy supply and online account is fully set up. This normally takes 4-6 weeks.

Once you’re all set up, head over to the 'Offers and Upgrades' section in your online account and select ‘Charge Anytime’.

At the end of the month, we work out how much energy you've used to smart charge your EV. We'll use this info to credit your account in the first week of the following month. So that your smart charging rate reflects our 10p per kWh rate.

For example:

The Charge Anytime rate is 10p a kWh. And let's say your standard electricity rate is 30p a kWh.

We'll credit you 20p for each kWh you've used to smart charge your EV. To make your rate 10p.

And that means if you spend 100 hours smart charging your EV, you'll get £20 in credit back on your bill.

It’ll appear on your monthly OVO Energy bill under the heading ‘Charge Anytime Credit’. We apply this credit to your account in the first week of every month.

The credit shown on your bill will be for the electricity you’ve used for EV smart charging your EV the previous month. So, in the first week of September, we’ll apply your credit for August, and so on.

Smart charging is when you charge your EV at home. The smart bit comes from our intelligent tech making sure your vehicle is charged when the grid is greenest, within the time you need it charged by. You set this time through the app.

Smart charging with Charge Anytime unlocks the cheaper charging rate of 10p. It helps move the UK energy system towards a smarter, greener way of using energy. If more people use energy when the grid is greener, together we can rely less on fossil fuels to keep power flowing at peak times.

Yes, you can override your smart charging schedule at any time. This will let you top-up quickly when you need to, at your standard home energy electricity rate.

The next time you charge, you’ll automatically go back to your smart charging schedule.

At the moment, the only way we can work out charging with solar panels is if you have an Indra Smart Pro Charger.

Charge Anytime can only tell us how much electricity you’ve used from the grid. If your home has solar panels it’s harder to work this out. Because some of the electricity may come from your solar panels, and some from the grid.

But we’re looking into how solar panels could work with Charge Anytime. So if you’d like to take part in our research, please email [email protected]. We want to get Charge Anytime to as many people as possible!
