Happy retained customer

I always compare tariffs especially this time as the increase was higher than I was expecting it would be, compared to the 2 year fixed price I was presently paying. I was told Octopus was now a good company to look at and the customer service was as good as OVO. However their tariffs were even higher and as now been with OVO for a number of years (6 I think) and extremely happy with the customer service I have always received I am more than happy to continue with them as my energy suppliers. I also like the app to check how much I am using and hints and tips of where I can save money.

Support in reducing consumption costs.

I have 9KW of solar panels a micro hydro electric system and two electric cars. I live in an area with no mobile reception and so smart meters do not work. Ovo has tried hard to provide one to no avail. But they have installed a tariff 7 meter which allows me to minimise my costs, I use the daytime costs in summer when I generally have surplus electricity, and in winter I take advantage of the lower tariff with the additional smaller hydro output at night.

With the recent rises in electricity…

With the recent rises in electricity price, I considered switching to another supplier. Although happy with OVO for several years, I needed to minimise my bill. I checked alternatives on money supermarket. But after updating the money supermarket estimates with actual usage, the one year deal OVO offered was still amongst the best. Ovo continue to provide excellent and friendly telephone support, so I remain an OVO customer.

Frequently asked boiler cover questions

Annual boiler services as part of OVO HomePlan include:

  • A visual check of the boiler
  • The boiler being fired up safely
  • A flue gas analysis efficiency test
  • Opening up the boiler to inspect it, if necessary
  • Checking the flue, ventilation, and system pressure
  • Cleaning the condensate trap
  • Visually checking the radiators, and bleeding them if necessary
  • Checking the hot water cylinder
  • Confirmation in writing that the service has been carried out

You can start making claims after your first 30 days of cover.

Good news: we cover most domestic central heating boilers that are powered by mains gas. 

We don’t cover:

  • Electric, liquid petroleum gas (LPG) boilers
  • Solid fuel or oil fuelled boilers
  • Back boilers and dual purpose boilers (e.g. similar to Aga, Rayburn)
  • Central heating and/or controls specifically designed for piped or electric underfloor systems
  • Electric central heating systems

This all depends on exactly what type of plan you choose, so check your policy documents.

If you’ve chosen one of our standard plans without a £60 fixed excess charge, then you won’t pay any excess charges except in specific circumstances. 

 For example, if you’re on our Complete plan without a £60 fixed excess charge, you will have to pay excess charges in the following circumstances: 

  • External drains callouts – £50 excess 
  • Taps and toilets callouts – £50 excess 

 If your boiler is 7 years or older at the beginning of cover you’ll also pay a £50 excess for boiler call-outs. 

 If you choose one of our policies with a fixed £60 excess, then you will be charged £60 for each callout. If the engineer has to make a second visit to fix the same problem (within 30 days of the first visit) you won’t have to pay the call-out charge again. There is no call-out charge for your annual boiler service.

We know there’s a lot of admin to think about when you move house. The good news is, it’s no hassle to take your boiler cover with you. Simply get in touch with us to let us know that you’ve moved, and we can help you set up a new contract. 

We’ll need to know:

  • Your new address
  • The date you moved in
  • Some details about your new boiler

You could also choose to end your boiler cover with us when you move. There might be a charge for this.

There’s a 14-day “cool off” period, during which you can change your mind and cancel your policy at no charge. After that, you can cancel your boiler cover at any time, but there may be a cancellation fee to pay.

In emergencies, such as a water leak, we will aim to get an engineer out to you within two hours.

For all other problems, we’ll aim to get someone to you either:

  • The same day you call, if you call before 9am
  • Within 24 hours

Our boiler services usually take place between March and October. When you sign up to one of our plans, we’ll be in touch to let you know which month you’re scheduled in for. It will usually be in the year after you’ve signed up.

The month before your service, we’ll reach out again to find out when the most convenient time and date is for you.

1  No claims can be made within the first 30 days. Terms, conditions, exclusions and cancellation charges apply. For boilers aged 7 years and over up to £2 a month additional premium will be charged. This product has a £99 excess.
