What is Total Living Control?

Scottish homes that are highly energy efficient, and have all-electric heating systems. It's only available to homes that have certain energy saving devices fitted which match our specifications. The devices should include a system for controlled ventilation and heat recovery for your full home. Because of this tariff's energy efficiency requirements, it's not suitable for homes with gas or oil heating.

With Total Living Control you get two rates on one meter. One rate records all the energy you use at the off-peak times, the other rate records your energy usage at all other times. It offers 8 hours of cheaper, off-peak energy, split across three times each day.

Energy used during the day costs more than our standard rate, so it's worth using more energy at the cheaper times. It's not just your heating and hot water that use the cheaper rate; any electricity you use in the off-peak times will be on the lower price too.

Most modern appliances like washing machines or dishwashers have built in timers. If yours don't, you can buy separate timers for them and other appliances. That way you can make the most of your cheaper electricity price.

When are the cheaper, off-peak times?

You'll get the off-peak rate for 8 hours each day:

  • 3 hours between 3.00am and 7.00am

  • 2 hours between 12.30pm and 3.30pm

  • 3 hours between 7.00pm and 11.00pm.

Once your Total Living Control meter is installed, it'll show your exact times.
