2 Hours of Free Electricity Terms and Conditions

These terms and conditions (the “Terms”) apply to you if you have joined and been accepted to participate in the 2 hours of free electricity offer (the “Offer”). These Terms are separate to OVO’s Core Terms which cover the supply of energy to you and are supplemental to the OVO Beyond Terms which also apply to this Offer. 

The promoter of this Offer is OVO Energy Limited, incorporated in England and Wales under company number 06890795 and whose registered office is at OVO Energy, 1 Rivergate, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6ED (“OVO,we”).

1. About this offer

1.1 By joining the Offer, eligible customers can choose 2 hours of free home electricity (unit rate only) each week, up to a maximum of 8 hours each month, subject to the exclusions noted in these Terms.   

1.2 You can join the Offer within the OVO Energy app from 24 September 2025, and the first week of free electricity slots will be 29 September 2025.  The Offer will close to new joiners on 19 October 2025 and the free electricity slots will end 26 October 2025. 

1.3 By opting in to this Offer, you agree that OVO will identify you’ve signed up to the offer by storing your account number in our offers database and adding a flag to your energy account. We will only use your data in line with data protection laws and with the terms under this Offer. You can learn more about how we handle your personal data at OVO and your data subject rights under data protection law in our  Privacy Policy. Your data relating to the Offer will only be used for this purpose and we won’t use it for anything unrelated. 

2. Exclusions and Consumption Limit

App only Offer - This is an App only Offer. Meaning you can choose your 2 hours of home electricity in a weekly selection window that will be available through the OVO energy app only.  

Consumption Limit - We will set a consumption limit of 1kWh per hour, meaning you will receive free electricity for up to 1 kWh of electricity use during the free period window.  Any electricity you use above 1kWh in the free period will be charged at your normal unit rate. 

Excluded consumption - Free electricity applies for home appliance energy use only. Energy consumed by a home EV charger, in-home battery or heat pump will be charged at your standard unit rates.

Unit rate only - The free electricity applies to your electricity unit rate only. You will still pay the full daily standing charge applicable to your tariff. 

3. Eligibility

3.1 To be eligible for 2 hours of free home electricity, you’ll need to: 

  • be an OVO Energy electricity or dual fuel fixed tariff customer who is or has been on our 1 Year Fixed Loyalty tariff with an end date between 25 Aug and 7 Dec. (not available to gas only customers or pre-payment customers);

  • have downloaded the OVO Energy App;

  • have signed up to OVO Beyond;

  • have a working smart meter that sends us meter readings;

  • pay by monthly Direct Debit (in accordance with the Direct Debit rules in our Core Terms;

  • opted into half-hourly meter reads for billing (you can do this when you join);

  • opted into half-hourly meter reads for settlement (you can do this when you join);

  • use this Offer for domestic use only;

  • the offer is showing to you in the OVO app;

  • comply at all times with these Terms and our Core Terms.

3.2 If you do not meet/continue to meet the eligibility criteria in paragraph 3.1 above, you will no longer be eligible for the Offer.

3.3 The Offer may only be used once per household.

4. Free home electricity slot selection

4.1 In order to get your 2 hours of free electricity, you must log in to the OVO app each week, within the weekly selection window.

4.2 The weekly selection window will be available Sunday - Sunday, you will get a choice of timeslots to select for the week ahead. These time slots may change each week.

4.3 You cannot bank or roll over your free electricity hours, you must use the free electricity  hours within the week selected. 

4.4 If you fail to select your chosen hours for the coming week within the selection window you will be unable to use the hours in the coming week.

4.5 You will not be able to change your time slot once it has been selected. 

5. Fair usage policy 

5.1 Once you have selected your free electricity window, electricity usage within those times will be free, capped at 1kWh per hour. Any energy consumed above the capped amount will be chargeable at your usual rate. We use your smart meter readings to calculate your electricity usage during the relevant window.

5.2 If for any reason we are unable to retrieve your smart meter data to calculate your consumption, for example, if your meter stops sending us readings, you will not be eligible for the Offer and you will not receive a credit to your account.

6. Bill credit process

6.1 Electricity used in the free electricity hours selected will be calculated and paid back as a bill credit. Your bill credit will normally appear on your electricity account in the following month, for example September will be paid in October, although it could occasionally take longer to credit your account. 

6.2 This will appear as a separate line item on your energy bill, under ‘Beyond - 2 hours of free electricity’. The amount added will be a reduction to your price payable for energy.

6.3 If you leave OVO or OVO Beyond part way through a month, your credit will not be pro-rated/paid.

6.4 Credits cannot be transferred as a cash refund or to another account holder.

7. Switching away or moving home

7.1 If you want to switch to a different supplier you will no longer be eligible for the 2 hours of free electricity and you will no longer be eligible to claim the Offer. See our Core Terms for your rights to cancel your energy supply contract. Please note that exit fees may be payable depending on your plan. 

8. Changes to the offer or these terms

8.1 We reserve the right to amend these Terms on reasonable notice. If we reasonably think the change will put you at a disadvantage, we’ll let you know what the changes are. If you take part in the Offer after the changes take effect to these Terms, any such new or amended terms will apply. Updated terms can be found in the OVO App.  

8.2 We reserve the right to withdraw or amend the Offer at any time..

9. Ending these terms

9.1 By participating in this Offer you agree to comply with these Terms. 

9.2 We will monitor compliance with these Terms. In the event of fraud, abuse, misuse, or not keeping to these terms, we can cancel, withdraw or reclaim any payments made to you under the Offer and, end or suspend the Offer or stop you from participating in it. 

9.3 If we deem in our discretion that a participant is ineligible for any reason, we reserve the right to cancel or recover any discount already awarded.

9.4 If you no longer wish to participate in the Offer you can just choose not to opt in to select your free electricity. 

10. General

10.1 In the event that for reasons beyond our reasonable control we are unable to award the discount, or we deem it appropriate to do so (in its reasonable discretion), we reserve the right to award an alternative of a similar nature and an equivalent value, or at our sole discretion, the cash value of the Offer.

10.2 These Terms are subject to English Law and you submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England unless you’re a resident of Scotland, in which case you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.
