Power Move terms and conditions

These terms and conditions (the Terms) apply to you if you have joined OVO’s ‘Power Move’. Please read these Terms carefully. These Terms are separate to, and do not replace:  (a) our Core energy supply terms and conditions (Core Terms) or any other terms which may apply to your OVO energy plan;

(b) the OVO app terms (the App Terms); and

(c) the OVO Points terms (the Points Terms).

Capitalised terms have the meaning given to them in these Terms. If we don’t define them here they have the meaning given to them in the Core Terms (see Section 1 of the Core Terms)

These Terms include:

  1. About Power Move

  2. How can I get Power Move?

  3. How can I earn points?

  4. Power Move Points rules

  5. Ending your participation in Power Move

  6. Changes to Power Move

  9. General

1. About Power Move

1.1 With Power Move you can earn points by using as much of your non-essential electricity as possible during off-peak times (weekdays 12 midnight-4pm and 7pm to 12 midnight). If you can use 85% or more of your total electricity per month during these off-peak times, you'll earn points for each month you achieve this. If you have Charge Anytime any electricity you use to charge electric vehicles will not be included in this calculation.

1.2 You can begin earning points by shifting your electricity use into off-peak times from 1st October 2026.

2. How can I get Power Move?

2.1 Power Move is available to all OVO customers who meet the eligibility criteria below. You can only opt into Power Move via Beyond, so you’ll need to download the OVO energy app, agree to the App Terms and the Points Terms and complete your Beyond set up. You can sign up to Power Move at any time from 1 October 2026, and your access to Power Move will start the day that you sign up. You can opt out at any time through your OVO app.

2.2 To be eligible for Power Move you’ll need to:

  • be an OVO customer and have your electricity supplied by us;

  • have downloaded the OVO app, agreed to the App Terms and the Points Terms and signed up to Beyond;

  • have a working electricity smart meter;

  • have a credit meter;

  • have a single rate tariff only (e.g. not Economy 7 or Economy 10);

  • have an active Direct Debit;

  • have opted into half-hourly meter reads for billing (you can do this when you join);

  • have opted into half-hourly meter reads for settlement (you can do this when you join);

  • have an active email address; and

  • comply at all times with these Terms, our Core Terms, the App Terms and the Points Terms.

(Eligibility Criteria)

2.3 Unfortunately there may be some types of meters and tariffs that won’t work with Power Move. If you have an ineligible meter or tariff you won’t be able to join Power Move.

2.4 If, at any time, you fail to meet the Eligibility Criteria, including no longer opting in to half-hourly meter readings for billing or half-hourly settlements, or cancel your Direct Debit, then we might stop you taking part in Power Move, and you won’t receive any further points, until you meet eligibility criteria again.

3. How can I earn points?

3.1 In order to earn points, each month you’ll need to shift your non-essential electricity use to off-peak times (12 midnight-4pm and 7pm to 12 midnight), Monday to Friday and all day on weekends. You’ll earn points if you can use 85% or more of your total electricity per month during these off-peak times.

Note: Electricity used on bank holidays doesn’t count towards your monthly use.

3.2 If you can use 85% or more of your total electricity per month during these off-peak times, you'll earn points for each month you do this. The number of points you earn will depend on what percentage of electricity you used during off-peak times that month (see section 3.6). If you have Charge Anytime any electricity you use to charge electric vehicles will not be included in this calculation.

3.3 You may also have the chance to earn extra points on a weekly basis through personalised challenges (see section 3.7). These may not be available to all customers.

How we calculate your number of points each month

3.4 If you have an off-peak electricity usage of 85% or more at the end of the month, you’ll earn points. Your off-peak usage is calculated by: Total usage (kWh) in off-peak times divided by Total usage for the entire month (kWh) x 100.

E.g. If your total monthly usage is 110kWh and 100kWh of this was used at off-peak times, the calculation would be:

100 kWh (off-peak usage) divided by 110 kWh (total usage) x 100 = 90.91%

If you have Charge Anytime, any electricity you use to charge electric vehicles will not be included in this calculation (see section 3.5 for more details on how this works).

3.5 Customers who have Charge Anytime are eligible to take part in Power Move. However, electricity used for charging your EV will not be used in the final monthly calculation. Only your in-home usage will count towards your off-peak/peak electricity usage.

E.g. If your total monthly usage is 210kWh and 100kWh of this was used for EV charging, your total usage for the calculation would be:

210kWh total usage - 100 kWh EV charging usage = 110kWh total usage

If 100kWh of this was used at off-peak times (and none of this was used for EV charging) the calculation would be:

100kWh (off-peak usage, no EV charging) divided by 110 kWh (total usage without EV charging) x 100 = 90.91%

3.6 The amount of points earned will be based on the percentage of electricity you used during off-peak times that month as follows:

Percentage of electricity used during off-peak times

  • 94.01% to 100% = 2,000 points

  • 93.01% to 94% = 1,800 points

  • 92.01% to 93% = 1,600 points

  • 91.01% to 92% = 1,400 points

  • 90.01% to 91% = 1,200 points

  • 89.01% to 90% = 1,000 points

  • 88.01% to 89% = 800 points

  • 87.01% to 88% = 600points

  • 86.01% to 87% = 400 points

  • 85% to 86% = 200 points

  • 84.99% or below = 0 points

If there are any changes to the off-peak percentage levels or the points available per level, we’ll let you know. The off-peak percentage levels and points available per level will also always be available in the Power Move section of your OVO app.

Weekly Challenges

3.7 You may have the chance to take part in weekly challenges where you are asked to either shift more of your electricity usage to off-peak times compared to the previous 7 days, or maintain your off-peak electricity usage at the same level as the previous 7 days. See section 3.8 below for more details.

3.8 If a challenge is available you must opt-in to be eligible to earn points from the challenge. You can do this by tapping the opt in button for the challenge you want to accept in the Power Move section of your OVO app.

Challenges

Use at least 1% more of your electricity in off-peak times than you used in the previous 7 days, or keep your off-peak usage at the same percentage, and earn points.

You will be rewarded based on how much more you’ve used in off-peak times, up to 3%.

  • Keep your off-peak usage between 0%-0.99% above your previous 7 day score = 50 points

  • An increase of 1%-1.99% = 100 points

  • An increase of 2%-2.99% = 200 points

  • An increase of 3% or more = 300 points

E.g. Your off-peak usage in the last 7 days was 85%. You may be challenged to increase your off-peak usage up to 88% for the next 7 days from when you opt into the challenge.

If you increased your off-peak usage to 87% this is a 2% increase and you would earn 200 points.

3.9 For challenges, you will be rewarded for the corresponding target level to 1 decimal place.

3.10 For example if you increase your off-peak usage by 1.34% after opting into a shift challenge, you will receive 100 points.

3.11 Any points earned from challenges are in addition to any points earned through using 85% or more of your total electricity at off-peak times during a month.

3.12 Your rolling off-peak usage might be different to your challenge off-peak usage percentage shown in the OVO app. This is because your monthly off-peak usage is based on the month so far and challenges are based on your off-peak usage during the previous 7 days.

3.13 Challenges are not guaranteed to be presented to all customers. Challenge availability will be based on your amount of off-peak usage at the time of challenge creation.

4. Power Move Points rules

Monthly off-peak usage

4.1 Points earned from having monthly off-peak usage of 85% or higher will be applied to your account monthly - at the start of the following month. E.g. Points earned in August will be paid at the start of September.

Challenges

4.2 Points earned from challenges will be paid weekly and after successful completion of a challenge.

If you join after the 1st of each month

4.3 If you opted into Power Move after the month has begun, you’ll earn a pro-rated number of points for the first month based on the amount of time you've been on Power Move. Your points will always be rounded to the next 100 e.g. If your pro-rated points = 129, you would receive 200.

E.g. you join Power Move on 28 January and use 90% of your electricity during off-peak times. 90% off-peak usage earns 1,000 points. You’ve been on Power Move for 4 days out of a 31 day month, which is 12.9% of the month). 12.9% of 1,000 points is 129 points. Rounding to the next 100 is 200 points. You would receive 200 points for January.

Points available

4.4 The number of points may vary. Points amounts will always be available in the Power Move section of your OVO app and on ovoenergy.com/power-move at the beginning of each new month.

How your points are applied to your account

4.5 Points earned from Power Move will be added to your OVO wallet, which can be found in the Rewards Centre of Beyond in your OVO app.

4.6 You can redeem your points in the Rewards Centre. You can find full details on your points wallet and how to earn and redeem points in our Points terms.

4.7 If you leave us before your points are applied, your points will be added to your Rewards Centre and kept for 24 months should return to OVO.

You’ll find more information about switching away from OVO in our Core Terms, and what happens to your unspent points if you leave OVO in our Points Terms.

What happens if I don’t have off-peak usage above 85%?

4.8 You won't be eligible to receive any points if your monthly off-peak usage is 84.99% or below. If you don’t earn any points in the month, you will still earn points the following month, if your off-peak usage for that month reaches the 85% target.

4.9 If you are invited to take part in a challenge and opt in, you can still earn points through the challenge even if your monthly off-peak usage is below 85%.

E.g. If you have successfully increased your off-peak usage from 83% to 84% in a Challenge, you will earn 100 points for that week even if your monthly off-peak usage is below 85%.

What happens if we can’t receive readings from your meter?

4.10 Your electricity smart meter needs to work and be connected to the internet to take part.

4.11 For monthly rewards, we need at least 14 weekday (Monday - Friday) readings to work out your monthly result. If technical issues stop us getting enough readings for more than 7 days, we may remove you from Power Move.

4.12 For challenge rewards, we need at least 5 days of readings during the challenge week to work out your weekly result.

4.13 If technical issues stop us from getting enough readings (as per 4.11 and 4.12) for more than 7 days, we may remove you from Power Move until the issue is resolved.

4.14 If we can’t read your smart meter data for 48 hours after that specific day then that day won’t count towards your Power Move Target. That’s because we won’t have the data we need to correctly calculate your peak electricity usage.

5. Ending your participation in Power Move

If you want to leave Power Move

5.1 You can opt out of Power Move at any time through the Power Move section in the OVO app. If you’d like to stop receiving Power Move related emails, you'll need to opt out of Power Move. You’ll be able to rejoin Power Move at any time by opting in through Beyond.

Any unspent points earned through Power Move will still be available in your Rewards Centre, as long as you continue to meet the Points eligibility criteria.

If you switch away

5.2 You’re free to switch to another energy supplier at any time (unless there is a debt on your account, in which case we may stop your switch until the debt is cleared). Once you switch to another energy supplier you won't be eligible to receive points. You won’t receive any points for the month you leave OVO. You’ll find more information about switching away from OVO in our Core Terms, and what happens to your unspent points if you leave OVO in our Points Terms.

If you move house

5.3 As long as you stay with OVO, you’ll be able to opt in to Power Move again with your new account details, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria. You’ll be able to do this at any point. Pro-rata rules will apply if you re-join Power Move part way through a month.

You’ll find more information about what happens to your unspent points if you move home in our Points Terms.

If you move to a multi-rate tariff

5.4 If you move to a multi-rate tariff, such as Economy 7 or Economy 10, we reserve the right to remove you from Power Move, and you’ll be unable to re-join.

If you opt out of Half Hourly Readings/Settlements (HHR/HHS)

5.5 To calculate your usage during peak times, we need to be able to see your usage at half hourly intervals. If you opt out of half hourly readings or half hourly settlements, we’re unable to correctly calculate and reward you with any points for your % of peak usage, and reserve the right to remove you from Power Move.

When we can end your participation in Power Move

5.6 If you don’t comply with these Terms, our Core Terms, the App Terms or the Points Terms or if you no longer meet any of our Eligibility Criteria, we may remove you from Power Move. This would happen with immediate effect and you won’t be eligible to receive points for Power Move. You’ll find more information about what happens to your unspent points if you leave Power Move in our Points Terms.
