We then use this info to give you Anytime Charging Credit each month – which means that your total bill will always reflect a smart-charging rate of just 10p a kWh.

Frequently asked questions

If your plans change and you need to charge your EV unexpectedly, boost charging lets you temporarily override the smart charging schedule that you’ve set in your EV charger app, and get your car fully charged as quickly as possible.

If you need to boost charge your EV, you’ll be charged your standard electricity rate.

You can activate boost mode in your EV charger app.

Kaluza is the intelligent software platform that powers the Anytime add-on. Using AI and real-time data from a multitude of sources, it makes sure your electric vehicle is charged when energy demand, or carbon intensity, is lower.

Even though you're using renewable electricity, it's still important to avoid using energy when energy demand, or carbon intensity, is high.3 Because the more we use energy when the National Grid is greener, the less it needs to rely on dirty fossil fuels to top-up supply – and the more likely it is that your energy will come from renewable sources.

To enjoy the Anytime add-on, you need to have either a SMETS2 meter, or SMETS1 meter made by Secure.

If you’re not sure what yours is, a good place to start is the serial number. If it starts with 19P, it's a SMETS1 meter. If it starts with 19M, it’s a SMETS2.

If you don't already have a smart meter, it couldn’t be easier to get one. You can book a free installation through your online account or on your OVO app.

The good news is that there are several models that work with the Anytime add-on. These are:
  • Indra Smart Pro
  • Indra Smart Charge V3
  • Indra Smart Pioneer
  • Ohme Home
  • Ohme Home Pro

Your Anytime Charging Credit won’t impact your Direct Debit at all. In fact, you can even ask for credit to be refunded to you once you’ve got enough.

Your credit will be applied to your account in the first week of every month. They’ll appear under the heading ‘Anytime Charging Credit’ on your monthly OVO bill for the most recent whole month period. For example, if you receive your bill on the 20th of September, it will include your Anytime Charging Credit from the month of August.

If you believe the calculation of your Anytime Charging Credit is incorrect you can query this by emailing [email protected] and providing any evidence. Please note that OVO cannot take responsibility for the quality of the data supplied by your home charger, and any accuracy issues relating to the charger will need to be taken up with your manufacturer.

If you want to leave Anytime for any reason, you can cancel the add-on whenever you like and at no extra cost. Just head to the Plan tab in your OVO account and click on the cancel add-on button.

By sharing half-hourly meter information with us, it gives us a much more precise and detailed breakdown of what energy you’re using and when. This information, coupled with Kaluza’s data and tech, gives us extra purchasing power when we’re buying energy on your behalf. Meaning we can buy the energy that you consume cheaper – which is why we’re able to offer you Anytime’s super-low smart charging rate.

Important to know

  1. Kaluza will process your data in accordance with Kaluza’s privacy policy.
  2. Kaluza will make sure your car is charged when demand on the National Grid is lower. This helps reduce reliance on dirty fossil fuels and means your energy is more likely to come from renewable sources.
  3. From 1 October 2022, 100% renewable electricity is only available to customers who currently have an electricity smart meter or who have a smart meter installed. Find out how to get a smart meter installed. Not all customers may be able to have a smart meter installed. OVO Energy terms and eligibility criteria apply. If you are on a fixed contract you will still receive 100% renewable energy until the end of your contract. The renewable electricity we sell is backed by renewable certificates (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates, also known as REGOs). Get more details on REGOs and how these work. A proportion of the electricity we sell is also purchased directly from renewable power generators in the UK.
