How to shutdown your solar panels and battery

If your solar panels, battery or system aren’t working, manually restarting them could help. You’ll also need to shut them down before any repairs or maintenance can be done, so knowing how to do that can be really useful.

Here are some step by step guides on how to turn off and restart your solar panel system.

Quick Fix

  1. Turn all AC isolators to the ‘off’ position.

  2. On the right-hand side of all battery modules, press and hold the on/off button for 5 seconds until you hear a beep.

  3. Make sure the DC Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) is in the ‘off’ position.

  4. Look for the DC isolator on the underside of the hybrid inverter and turn it to the ‘off’ position.

  5. If you have a Solar Consumer Unit (SCU) make sure the main switch is in the ‘off’ position. Not all systems will have an SCU.

Restart steps

Follow these steps to restart your solar panels and battery system:

  1. If you have an SCU, make sure the main switch is in the ‘on’ position.

  2. Turn the DC isolator on the underside of the hybrid inverter to the ‘on’ position.

  3. Push the DC MCB up to the ‘on’ position.

  4. Press the ‘on/off’ button for 1 second on all battery modules until you hear a beep.

  5. Turn all AC isolators to the ‘on’ position.

Looking after your solar panels

We've given you an operation and maintenance (O&M) manual that's filled with lots of useful information. This guide tells you what you can and can't do when it comes to your solar panel system. Please read this information carefully as it could invalidate your warranty and your system could stop working.

Do

  • Keep an eye on the solar panels. If the inverters are flashing green, that means they're working. If they're not flashing green, you'll need to arrange a repair.

  • To keep your solar panels working efficiently, make sure they are clear of leaves and dirt. Use a long-handled wiper to clean the panels while you're on the ground. This keeps you, and those around you, safe.

  • Call in the experts for any advanced maintenance, like changing an inverter.

  • In case of a fire, make sure anyone staying in your home is aware of where the "kill switch" is. This cuts off power to the panels so the fire services can do their job.

Don't

  • Let trees and shrubs cast shadows over your solar panels – trim any nearby plants.

  • Use abrasive soaps or cleaning cloths on the panels at any point. These could scratch the glass.
