OVO Energy and Boost

Additional Terms and Conditions for customers joining Boost with a credit meter

Last updated: 10 August 2018

These additional terms apply if you have signed up to Boost for an electricity and/or gas supply but have a credit meter, or a prepayment meter that we cannot support.

Unless we state otherwise, any term used in these terms and conditions, which is defined in the OVO Energy and Boost Terms and Conditions (the Core Terms) will have the same meaning as in the Core Terms.

Where there are any differences between these terms and conditions and the Core Terms, these terms and conditions will take priority.

1. Switching from a credit meter to a prepayment meter

1.1 If you have signed up to Boost for an electricity and/or gas supply but have a credit meter, or a prepayment meter that we cannot support, the following clauses are added into sections 4.8-4.10 of the Core Terms:

“4.8 If you have signed up to Boost for an electricity and/or gas supply but have a credit meter, or a prepayment meter that we cannot support:

  • (a)    you agree to let us install a smart meter for your Boost gas and/or electricity supply (as applicable) within three months of your supply start date; and*

  • (b)    you will pay Boost gas and/or electricity rates (as applicable) from the supply start date. See section 8.3 for details of payment methods.*

4.9 If you do not give us access to install a smart meter in accordance with clause 4.7, or if for any reason we deem that it is not possible to install a smart meter (for example, technical limitations or installer unavailability) or if your smart meter installation is not a standard installation, we will move you onto an OVO Energy variable plan, or cancel your switch if you are still in your cooling off period. If this is the case, we’ll let you know when this is happening.

4.10 Our standard installation assumes that we are able to install the smart meter at your property in line with our usual fitting procedure, and that we do not need to carry out additional work, such as additional electric wiring, gas pipework or the removal of any fixtures at your property.”

2. Payments and charges – your payment method

2.1 If you have signed up to Boost for an electricity and/or gas supply but have a credit meter, or a prepayment meter that we cannot support, until we have installed our smart meters at your property, the following sections will apply instead of sections 8.1 and 8.4 in the Core Terms:

“8.1     The payment methods available are as follows:

(a)        Direct Debit , which means paying for your supply in advance each month by Direct Debit, where we set the amount of your Direct Debit. See section 8.3 of the OVO Energy and Boost Terms and Conditions for details; and

(b)       Standard credit, which means paying in arrears by cash, cheque or postal order.”

and

“8.4      If you have signed up to Boost with a credit meter and are awaiting a smart prepayment meter install, you will need to agree an alternative payment method with Boost. If you have not agreed an alternative payment method, then you will accrue debt which will need to be paid in arrears. There are a number of debt repayment options available see section 8 of the Core Terms.”
