Can I connect my In-Home Display to my WiFi?

If you’re an OVO customer, pay for your energy monthly, and have one of our newest IHDs, then yes – you can connect your IHD to your WiFi.

If you’re an OVO customer with a smart meter, you may already have an In-Home Display (IHD) that gives you all kinds of useful information, like how much energy you’re using, what it’s costing, and how much carbon dioxide (CO²) you’re causing. You can see your current use, or your use over the last few hours, days, weeks or months.

You can also set alerts and warnings in the In-Home Display to let you know when you’re reaching a chosen level of energy each day – either as kilowatt hours (kWh) or what it’s costing you.
Now we’ve introduced even more versatile IHDs, which can also be connected to your home WiFi network to give you up-to-the-minute facts and figures on My OVO.

What’s so good about connecting my In-Home Display to my WiFi?

Once you’ve connected your IHD to your WiFi router, you can log into My OVO and track your energy in (almost) real time whenever you want, no matter where you are.

To do this, you’ll need to have an OVO smart meter, pay for your energy monthly and have one of our latest IHDs.

How do I know if my In-Home Display is suitable for connecting to WiFi?

If you’ve got one of our newest IHDs, you’ll see a pop-up in your My OVO account, headed ‘See your real-time energy use online’. It will appear on the ‘usage’ page, where you can currently view your smart meter graphs.

Once your IHD is connected to the internet, you’ll be able to see all this in My OVO:

  • How much energy you’re using – practically in real time.
  • How much energy you’ve used so far today.
  • Whether your current electricity or gas use is low, normal or high.
  • A graph of your energy use, minute by minute, so you can start to spot your most energy-hungry appliances, and use those details to control your energy spending.

You can access this info on your mobile, tablet or laptop – which means you can keep an eye on your home while you’re away, or check that you haven’t left something turned on when you’re out.
