At OVO we’ve already installed smart meters for thousands of our customers, but we’ve been unable to fit them in some properties, for a variety of reasons.
Our engineers are working their way around the UK
One reason you haven’t yet had a smart meter installed may simply be because we haven’t actually reached your area yet. We’re working our way around the UK, area by area, so if we haven’t started installing smart meters in your neighbourhood, rest assured that we’ll get round to you as soon as we can.
We’ll be in touch when our engineers are in your area. Then you just choose an appointment and our engineer will be round to install your new smart meter/s at a time that suits you.
It may be that you can’t yet have a smart meter installed for technical reasons – perhaps if you have a slightly different type of metering system, or if your meter is in the wrong place. For example, if you live in a high-rise flat but your meter is in the basement.
Luckily, technology is improving and developing all the time, so we hope to have solutions to all these difficulties soon. If everything continues to move at the same pace, you should be able to have a smart meter within the next few years.
I’ve got storage heaters – can I have a smart meter?
Yes, you can get a new smart meter for Economy 7. However, we'll need to speak to you first to make sure you're on the right plan and have different rates for daytime and nighttime. If you only have one rate, we'll need to give you a quote for our Economy 7 plan. Just give us a call on 0800 5999 440 to discuss those details, and then we can book the appointment to fit your smart meter.
Can I have a smart meter if my current meter is 3 phase?
Not right now, but we are working to make it possible in the near future.
Can I have a smart meter with an Economy 10 tariff?
Not yet, but we hope it will be possible soon.
