Meet the Cool Earth team: Patrick
By Anna-Lucy Terry Tuesday 24 September 2013
Meet Patrick, newbie and the man in charge of helping Cool Earth grow! The opportunities are endless and OVO customers are helping to fund and sustain such growth just by being with OVO. You deserve a pat on the back...and so does Patrick!
Who am I? As the newest member of the team, my role is to do what I’m told, which first off was to ‘double the size of the charity in the next eighteen months’. Eeek.
Three words that describe me: Kind and generous.
What excites me most about Cool Earth: That a simple idea works- we don't get bogged down in needless bureaucratic complexities.
The best thing about working with OVO: The confidence having rock solid support encourages.
My favourite Cool Earth moment was: Meeting Jerry Hall, without knowing who she was…
The Cool Earth project that is closest to my heart is…Cool Earth’s Lubutu project in the Congo. Geographically, the Congo is much closer than Peru.
Cool Earth has a positive impact on individuals...We brought Javier Dril Bustamente, a Peruvian indigenous tribesman, to the 2009 UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagan, to speak to world leaders about the impact of logging on his community.
If Cool Earth were to vanish today: It would be devastating. The charity strategically protects rainforest areas which act as a barrier against deforestation. Without this barrier millions of acres would be accessible to loggers.
OVO customers can further help support Cool Earth: Buy a Vivienne Westwood Cool Earth T-Shirt which will go on sale for Christmas this year so keep an eye out for them.
My favourite Cool Earth supporter is: Every OVO customer, obviously.
My Guilty Pleasure...Cool Earth Coffee
A fact that would make the public sit up & listen! According to the World Bank, the loss of a further 2% of Amazon rainforest could trigger natural dieback of the Amazon, leading to a vicious circle of rainforest destruction.
What I would most like to achieve with Cool Earth in the future: For Cool Earth to be keeping more than 230 million rainforest trees standing by 2020.
Why not sit back, relax, pour yourself a hot cup of Cool Earth Coffee and peruse the Cool Earth section of the OVO Blog to meet the rest of the team and more?!
