Behind the scenes of our Smart PAYG+ TV ad

At OVO we’re always keen to listen to our customers’ experiences with energy, and one of the biggest grumbles we hear of is the challenge of prepayment meters, which is why we’ve taken the ‘Oh no!’ out of Pay As You Go.
Whether it’s during your favourite TV show, in the middle of a shower or while you’re cooking dinner, there’s never a good time for the power to go out. It’s these ‘Oh no!’ moments that we’ve brought to life in our brand new TV advert for our Smart PAYG+ product, which allows customers to top up anywhere, anytime, by going online, using an app or sending a text.

Shot in Manchester over two days, using local creative agency Sharp, the PAYG+ TV ad illustrates the frustration and inconvenience prepayment customers are faced with when their power runs out unexpectedly. Watching a football match with friends or getting ready for a hot date shouldn’t be interrupted with a slog to the shops to top up. But with OVO’s Smart PAYG+ app, you only have to tap to top up.
OVO customer Mat Roberts, from Doncaster, was all-too familiar with those ‘Oh no!’ moments. “Previously I had to trek to my local shop with my key or card, top it up and then come back and top up my meters manually,” he says. “My meters are outside so this often involved me getting wet in the rain or cold in the snow. It was so frustrating."
But since swapping over to an OVO Smart meter, Mat says keeping his electricity running is a breeze: “Now I don’t have to leave my sofa to top up as I can do it all using OVO’s Smart PAYG+"
