How Charge Anytime works
The smart tech behind our app means you always smart charge your car at the greenest times, at our super-low rate. Plus, you can see how much money you're saving with Charge Anytime credits. Here's how it all works:
1. Check and switch to OVO
- Check your EV and home setup is compatible with Charge Anytime
- If it is, you can switch to OVO straight away
2. Opt in to smart charging
- When your electricity supply starts, connect your EV or charger with your OVO account
- Opt in to smart charging from your offers page
3. Set your EV to charge
- Choose when you want your EV ready by, and we'll work out the greenest time to charge
- Or select Charge Now to charge immediately at your normal household rate
4. Get credit in your account
- All the electricity you use will be charged at your normal household rate
- The following month, you'll see your Charge Anytime Credits, reflecting the lower Charge Anytime rate

1 The 2p a mile claim is based on an EV customer driving the UK average of 7,000 miles at an average of 4 miles per kWh. The Charge Anytime add-on rate on 01/10/2024 is 7p per kWh. Actual sum per mile is 1.75p. Individual costs will vary based on your vehicle efficiency and driving style.
2 This saving claim has been calculated by comparing the 'Tesla Model 3 Standard Range RWD: 145 – 305 miles' doing the UK average of 7,000 miles with Charge Anytime with a smart charging rate of 7p per kWh & 4m/kWh versus the 'BMW 3 Series with a 820 Mile Range and 13 Gallon Tank' doing 7,000 miles using petrol where the price per litre is £1.39. The 'Tesla Model 3 Standard Range RWD: 145 – 305 miles' equates to 1.75p per mile. Whilst the 'BMW 3 Series 820 Mile Range, 13 Gallon Tank' equates to 10.2p per mile. Resulting in driving petrol being over 5 times more expensive.
3 Actual sum is £542.50. When you add Charge Anytime to your plan, your home energy rate will stay the same, but the energy consumed by your EV will be charged at an effective rate of 7p per kWh when EV smart charging (thanks to payment of your Charge Anytime charging credit).
The £542.50 saving is based on an average Charge Anytime customer using 3100kWh a year to charge their EV using the Charge Anytime add on. The Charge Anytime rate on 01/10/2024 is 7p per kWh for Charge Anytime charging compared to the OVO’s UK average SVT rate of 24.5p per kWh. Actual savings will vary depending on vehicle efficiency, driving style, EV charging usage and the cost per kWh of your standard home energy tariff.
4 The 7p per kWh rate is effective whenever you smart charge your EV. If you'd like to override your smart charging schedule to top up quickly, you'll be charged at your standard home energy electricity rate. The next time you charge, you’ll automatically go back to your smart charging schedule.
5 Our smart tech aims to charge your car when the grid has more renewable energy in it, within the time you’ve set. Meaning it’s less likely your EV will be charged by energy from fossil fuels.
6 OVO Energy plants 1 million trees across the UK each year with its tree planting partners, The Conservation Volunteers and the Woodland Trust. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so planting trees helps to slow down climate change.
7 Power your EV for £217 a year. £217 claim is based on an average Charge Anytime customer using 3100kWh a year to charge their EV using the Charge Anytime add-on. The rate on 01/10/2024 is 7p per kWh for Charge Anytime. Actual amount for driving for a year is £217. Individual savings will vary based on your vehicle efficiency, driving style and EV charging usage. If you need your car in a hurry, you can override your smart charging schedule with the Charge Now function. You'll be charged at your standard home electricity rate when you're not smart charging.
