Happy retained customer

I always compare tariffs especially this time as the increase was higher than I was expecting it would be, compared to the 2 year fixed price I was presently paying. I was told Octopus was now a good company to look at and the customer service was as good as OVO. However their tariffs were even higher and as now been with OVO for a number of years (6 I think) and extremely happy with the customer service I have always received I am more than happy to continue with them as my energy suppliers. I also like the app to check how much I am using and hints and tips of where I can save money.

Support in reducing consumption costs.

I have 9KW of solar panels a micro hydro electric system and two electric cars. I live in an area with no mobile reception and so smart meters do not work. Ovo has tried hard to provide one to no avail. But they have installed a tariff 7 meter which allows me to minimise my costs, I use the daytime costs in summer when I generally have surplus electricity, and in winter I take advantage of the lower tariff with the additional smaller hydro output at night.

With the recent rises in electricity…

With the recent rises in electricity price, I considered switching to another supplier. Although happy with OVO for several years, I needed to minimise my bill. I checked alternatives on money supermarket. But after updating the money supermarket estimates with actual usage, the one year deal OVO offered was still amongst the best. Ovo continue to provide excellent and friendly telephone support, so I remain an OVO customer.

Your EV tariff questions answered

Totally! Because charging an electric car at home can really drive up your household bills, EV tariffs are designed to keep costs down. OVO Drive’s fixed rate plan means you pay a fixed rate, starting from around 13.5p/kWh depending on where you live, with no peak rate charges.

This depends on the size of the EV’s battery. For example, a Renault ZOE has a 52kWh battery, so charging it with our OVO Drive tariff at around 14.5p/kWh, would cost just over £7.50. The ZOE has a 245 mile range, which means you’d be paying just over 3p per mile. Interested in finding out more about charging costs? Read our guide on how much it will cost to charge an electric car at home, workplace and abroad.

Far less than you'll be spending on petrol, that's for sure! Exact costs will depend on your driving style, the efficiency of your car, and most importantly - how many miles you drive! Using the OVO Drive tariff's best rate of 13.5p/kWh, an average vehicle will cost around 3.3 pence for every mile you drive. Simply take your annual mileage, multiply it 3.3 and that'll be your annual cost. As an example, if you do 8000 miles a year, that'll be just £264 a year!

Some EV tariffs offer lower rates for charging at night. But with OVO Drive’s low cost flat rate, you’re not tied to charging your car overnight. Charge any time for the same flat rate, starting from around 14.5p/kWh. What are you waiting for? Get a quote and sign up today!

You’re welcome to join OVO Drive without a smart meter. If you’d like a smart meter once you’ve signed up, you can book one in your online account after you've got your first OVO statement.

Yes, OVO Drive is specially designed for electric vehicle (EV) drivers – so you do need to have an EV to be on the plan.

No, we’re sorry – OVO Drive is a dual-fuel only plan, so you’ll need to have both your electricity and gas with us.

Please know, if you have electric heating or storage heating as the main source of heat for your home, unfortunately, we won’t be able to offer you an OVO Drive plan.

If you’re on our variable plan, you can switch to a fixed plan at any time, and your new plan will start the next day. There’s no exit fee and no hassle. If you’re on a fixed plan, you just need to wait until you’re in your “renewal window”, 53 days before the end of your contract – otherwise, you might have to pay an exit fee. Your new plan will then start when your current one ends. Read more about switching between OVO plans here.

OVO Drive is a single-rate energy plan. This means the cost of electricity remains the same around the clock. With rates from as low as 13.5p/kWh, you can power your home and car day and night, without paying more at peak times.

Absolutely! Once you’ve signed up, you can get an EV charger installed by our partner ChargedEV. Find more info (and electrifying prices, exclusively for OVO members) check out our EV charging page.

OVO Drive Anytime will be exclusively available to OVO Drive members. But sit tight, we’re still working on the details right now – keep an eye out on ovoenergy.com for our big OVO Drive Anytime launch, happening later this summer.

No, sadly this will end with your EV Everywhere plan. You’ll be charged for your bp pulse account once your plan ends, unless you decide to cancel it.

We run a programme called I Dig Trees in partnership with a charity called The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). They’re experts at finding spaces across the UK for planting trees, especially urban spots, where the trees will make the biggest difference to local communities! TCV – along with an army of OVO volunteers – plant trees in places like local primary schools, retirement homes, colleges, and parks.

There’s no need for a torch and candles – your electricity and gas supply will continue as usual when you switch suppliers.

You don’t need to worry about contacting your old supplier to tell them you’re switching – we’ll take care of that for you.

Important to know

  1. For an EV customer charging 2,000kWh per year, with the UK average home consumption of 3731kWh of electricity and 11,526kWh of gas per year, the OVO Drive tariff would be up to £130 cheaper than OVO's next cheapest tariff. Based on an average of tariff rates across regions as of 28/05/21. Actual savings will vary based on home energy and EV charging usage. EV charging consumption based on an average mileage of 8000 miles, at an average of 4mi/kWh.
  2. 100% of the renewable electricity we sell is backed by renewable certificates (Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates (REGOs)). See here for details on Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin certificates and how these work. A proportion of the electricity we sell is also purchased directly from renewable generators in the UK.
  3. OVO Drive had OVO’s cheapest electricity rates for a single-rate tariff available for new customers on 27/05/2021. EV charging saving based on an average mileage of 8000 miles, at an average of 4mi/kWh, and comparing the resulting 2000kWh of energy cost between OVO Drive and the Ofgem price cap for single rate tariffs as of 27/05/21, using an average of regions. Average miles/kWh will vary depending on driving style and vehicle. Home electricity saving based on the UK Average home consumption of 3731kWh, also compared with the Ofgem price cap for single rate tariffs as of 27/05/21, using an average of regions.
  4. Each year, OVO plants 1 tree for every member in partnership with the Woodland Trust. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so tree-planting helps to slow down climate change.
  5. Interest Rewards are paid on credit balances of customers paying by monthly Direct Debit. It is calculated at 3% in your first year, 4% in your second year and 5% in your third year (and every year thereafter) if you pay by Direct Debit. Interest Rewards are paid monthly based on the number of days you’re in credit and the amount left in your account after you’ve paid your bill. Interest Rewards are only paid on balances up to £1,000 any amounts over this will not qualify. Full terms apply.
  6. By switching to OVO Energy you could reduce your carbon footprint by up to 1 tonne of carbon per year. This is based on the carbon emissions caused in the production and consumption of the 100% renewable electricity OVO provides as standard, compared to the emissions caused by the production and consumption of UK grid average electricity. Average UK household energy consumption figures were sourced from BEIS (2019). The carbon emissions factors were calculated by the Carbon Trust.
  7. The offer is for ‘5,000 Free Green Miles’, for customers who sign up to the OVO Drive energy plan. This will be delivered via a £15 credit being applied to your OVO Energy account each month for the first 12 months of your contract, up to a maximum total credit of £180. £180 credit equates to 5,000 free miles of electric driving for customers charging on the OVO Drive plan. The £180 (£15 per month for 12 months) is a fixed amount and will not be adjusted over the course of the offer period. A 2020 MINI Electric has an efficiency of 4.0 miles/kWh as per WLTP testing. Find out more about WLTP here(opens in new window). 5,000 miles equates to 1250kWh of energy. £180 can purchase 1250kWh of energy using an assumed electricity unit rate of 15.8p/kWh, the average of regional prices on the OVO Drive Plan, as of 03/06/2021.
